I’m not feeling well at the moment with fewer 🤒 . So it reminded me about something I was told many years ago. In this week learning I want to share with you something old people has told me.
In the old days, the temple isn’t just a place to go meditate, pray or make offering to the monk. People see temples as a place where they feel most protected and monks will welcome you in with open arms.
In the war period there were no hospital or medical centre, it was the temples that got used as medical grounds for people to be healed and recovered. There were no nurses or doctors, it’s the monks who acted as their nurses and doctors.
Old people told me, monks back then were required to learn how to make tradition medicine. This is because they know one day that it would be helpful to people who got injured and come seeking temple for help.
We often hear 108 holy powder and many different ingredients used to make amulets etc. Believe it or not, old people believe that old amulets that people got from the temples are actually medicine that can heal you from different kind of illness. The monk would hand out amulets to those who visited the temples and use it as a medicine to heal people when they are injured.
This to me a just another act of kindness & thoughtful of the monks. This is just another reason why Thai people are so attached to Buddhism because Buddhism has don’t a lot of the Thai people.
If what I was told is correct: Amulets back then is invaluable, priceless, cannot put a price on it because it’s greater than that. It saves life.
